There is such a place and thing where people dress up like traditional Charles Dickens period and go to a place where it is like living in London during those times. It is called the Charles Dickens Christmas Fair in San Francisco, specifically the Cow Palace. I went to this fair when I was 12, but haven't gone since then. My mom bought tickets for my family to go and we did just that. It is fun to transport to a different world just for a little bit, even if it is kind of a weird world. You walk around and there are tons of little shops to look at. Most of them are just craft stores or a corset shop or toys etc. The food is also very good even if it is still over priced, but that is expected. My parents and I all got a french dip sandwhich and it was delicious for being fair food. I don't think I would ever actually dress up for such an event, but it was fun to see the little kids who dressed up with their parents. It is hard to tell who are the actors and who are just people coming. They mix together which also makes it seem a little bit more realistic.
It is so much fun and all of the crafts are amazing to look at, at each of the "shops". I would recommend this if you have a few hours to walk around and really take it in. It is also great if you have kids because they can watch plays or look at toys. |
